Nissan has been developing electric vehicles since the late 1990s. They have made huge investments in the field and it has really paid off by positioning them as the leader in electric vehicles. The Renault-Nissan Alliance has sold over 300,000 electric vehicles making them a global leader in the industry.

Released in 2010, the Nissan Leaf opened many peoples eyes to the idea of an affordable electric vehicles. By December 2015 the Leaf was the world leader in electric vehicles sales with over 200,000 units sold since release.​  That being said the Leaf is the standard of what electric vehicles should be provided with: fast charging, good range, reasonable price, different trim levels, connectivity to your phone.
